National Express are recruiting a Air Conditioning & On-Board Technology Engineer to join the team, based at our Stansted location. The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining the comfort, safety, and reliability of our fleet. This specialist position focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining air conditioning systems and on-board technologies, including telematics, CCTV, Wi-Fi, and ticketing systems. Your expertise will ensure a seamless travel experience for passengers while supporting the operational efficiency of our fleet.
What you'll do:
- Perform diagnostics, repairs, and routine maintenance on vehicle air conditioning systems to ensure optimal performance and passenger comfort
- Conduct regular inspections, recharging, and leak detection for air conditioning units, adhering to manufacturer specifications and industry regulations
- Respond to air conditioning-related defects promptly to minimize vehicle downtime
- Troubleshoot and repair on-board technologies, including telematics, CCTV, ticketing systems, passenger Wi-Fi, and infotainment systems
- Ensure the calibration and functionality of all electronic systems, providing technical support for installation and upgrades as required
- Collaborate with technology providers and external suppliers to resolve complex technical issues
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with National Express standards and relevant regulatory requirements, including maintain accurate records of all work completed, including fault diagnostics, repairs, and parts used, ensuring full compliance with internal systems and procedures
- Provide guidance and technical training to technicians and apprentices on air conditioning and on-board technology systems
- Work closely with Engineering Managers and Lead Technicians to prioritize workloads and ensure the timely resolution of technical issues
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance maintenance processes and system reliability
What you'll need:
- F-Gas certification for air conditioning systems is mandatory
- Electrical or electronics qualification is desirable
- Proven experience working with air conditioning systems, including diagnostics and repairs
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting on-board vehicle technology systems such as telematics, CCTV, and ticketing systems
- Previous experience in the coach, bus, or automotive industry is highly advantageous
